143KW of solar to power the Walgett Aboriginal Medical Service

An exciting new beginning for Walgett! In early 2021, a massive 143kW system of solar will be installed on the Walgett Aboriginal Medical Service. Geni.Energy has partnered with Planet Ark Power to deliver this Community Renewable Project.

Planet Ark Power has already accomplished many projects providing real solutions to many agribusinesses, schools and industries across Australia so we are thrilled to have them onboard. You may have seen their recent announcement of Australia's largest of its kind grid-connected microgrid that Planet Ark Power achieved with IKEA.

The Walgett Aboriginal Medical Service is a non-profit organisation providing a range of services to improve the health and well-being of clients and the local community, particularly Aboriginal People since 1986.

Direct community benefits will be generated from this project through education and progress towards the target of zero emissions for the Shire. This solar installation will be cashflow positive from the outset with a pay back period of under 4 years. They will see more than $1,000,000 worth of cumulative savings on their electricity bills over 25 years. All the savings generated from this project will be put back into providing more services to the community instead of electricity bills.

This is the first of many community projects for Geni.Energy which will be integrated into the region-wide Virtual Power Plant - creating a Renewable Energy Precinct for the Northwest.

Around the time of installation, we will hold a public community briefing to educate the community and those involved about renewables and their critical involvement in the transition as a Renewable Energy Precinct in the Northwest. Communication with local schools will further this discussion particularly amongst young people who will receive these community benefits for decades to come which is paramount to the success of any project.

Walgett, as a rural hub with 2,000 residents, will become a leader and inspiration for future initiatives as it marks a milestone in the transition to renewables and the journey for Geni.Energy.

We invite you to our opening at the Aboriginal Medical Center in Walgett in the early months of 2021. Before then, stay up to date with this project and other community engagement events through our socials and becoming a Geni.Mate!
